Delaware River

By far, our favorite nearby river to paddle.
  • Flatwater up to Class II rapids and an amazing array of wildlife.
  • Map shows far more river than you'll likely paddle - we'll suggest the best part.
  • Dozens of accommodation options from primitive camping to B&Bs.
  • Great for all skill and experience levels.
  • Only a few hours from just about anywhere in the tri-state area, including NYC

Multi-Day Trips

Lackawaxen & Delaware Rivers

A challenging paddle on day one, then a nice easy cruise on the Delaware.

  • Map shows far more river than you'll likely paddle - we'll suggest the best part.
  • Dozens of campsites and river mileage combinations to choose from.

Multi-Day Trips

Metedeconk River

Start off in a nice calm pond and pick a direction.
  • Practice your balance and your strokes in a quiet, protected pond.
  • Head upstream and explore, testing your stamina against the slow current.
  • OR...head out into the wider river to the bay ending at the Mantoloking Bridge.
  • A nice, easy, calm day getting familiar with your kayak.
  • Combine this river with others for a multi-day, multi-river adventure.

1 or 2 Day Trips
Camping will be off river.

Toms River

A fun little river for the beginner.
  • Some swiftwater, wetlands ending in the heart of downtown Toms River.
  • A nicely overgrown river with gorgeous scenery.
  • A bit of an obstacle course, with a little bit of limbo thrown in due to down trees.
  • Fun for all skill and experience levels, if a little slow.
  • Close to the Jersey Shore area.

1, 2 or 3 Day Trips
Camping may be off river on 3 day trip.

Cedar Creek

A glimpse at the Pine Barrens of NJ.
  • Mostly flat, sometimes swift water.
  • A winding, twisting creek that will challenge your turning skills.
  • Several nice swimming areas to enjoy.
  • Located primarily in Double Trouble State Park.
  • Short transport to launch site, but a pleasant 4 to 6 hour trip.
  • End your trip at camp or continue all the way out to Barnegat Bay.

1 or 2 Day Trip
Start on a creek, end in a bay.

Exploration Combination #1
3 Days. One day each on the Metedeconk River, Toms River and Cedar Creek

Oswego / Wading River

A nice combination of Pine Barrens and a taste of the wetlands along the bay.
  • Mostly flat, sometimes swift water.
  • From lake to river to the wetlands of Great Bay.
  • A great beginner stretch that gives you a taste of several kayaking conditions.
  • Begin on a nice calm lake, make your way downriver.
  • Short transport to launch site, one minor portage on day one.
  • Two good 4 to 6 hour days of paddling, from Barrens to Bay.

2 Day Trip
Barrens to Bay.

Mullica River

A different taste of Pine Barrens and wetlands along the bay.
  • Mostly flat, sometimes swift water.
  • From lake to river to the wetlands of Great Bay.
  • Choice of 2 long days or 3 short days on water.
  • From Wharton State Forest to the edge of Port Republic.

2 or 3 Day Trip
Barrens to Bay, a different way.

Bay Exploration

A few hours exploring the wetlands and bays of southern Jersey.
  • Limited to participants that have paddled with us previously.
  • Subject to winds, tides and powerboat traffic.
  • Exact location will depend largely on tide and weather.
  • An excellent addition to the Oswego / Wading River or Mullica River trip.
  • Off-water camping, likely near Bass River State Park.
  • This can be a challenging trip and will require good stamina and energy levels.

Add-On Trip
Bay, Wetlands, Bay, Wetlands, Bay.
